PF Leadership Battle Deepens in Court

By Hannock Kasama

The Kabwe High Court has ordered members of the GIVEN LUBINDA-led Patriotic Front –PF- faction to stop presenting themselves as party leaders or announcing the road-map for the forthcoming PF General Conference until further notice.

The court has further directed the faction to vacate the PF Secretariat pending further determination of the matter.

Additionally, the Kabwe High Court has ordered the LUBINDA-led faction not to conduct activities such as press briefings in the name of the PF or use any party materials until further notice.

The court also ruled that, during this period, the faction leaders must not use PF letterheads or issue any receipts in the party’s name.

This follows an ex parte order issued by Kabwe High Court Judge-in-Charge, KELVIN LIMBANI.

The order arises from an application filed by the ROBERT CHABINGA-led PF faction, represented by Secretary-General MORGAN NG’ONA, against the LUBINDA faction’s Acting Secretary-General, BRENDA NYIRENDA, who is named as the respondent.

Judge LIMBANI has set December 3, 2025 for the inter-parte hearing of the matter.

Meanwhile, the Lusaka High Court has adjourned to November 27, 2025 the hearing of another case concerning the PF leadership wrangle.

In that case, MPOROKOSO Member of Parliament BRIAN MUNDUBILE and eight other PF members are challenging the legality of the October 2023 PF Convention, at which MATERO Member of Parliament MILES SAMPA was declared Party President.

Before the adjournment, SHIWANG’ANDU Member of Parliament STEPHEN KAMPYONGO testified that the 2023 Convention was illegal as it contravened the party’s constitution.

Judge CONCEPTA ZULU subsequently granted an application by the litigants in the PF leadership case to drop the remaining witnesses, following a submission by their lawyer, JONAS ZIMBA.
