Commerce, Trade, and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga has cautioned licensed small-scale gold miners in Northwestern Province against selling their mining licenses to foreigners, describing the practice as retrogressive.
Mr. Mulenga, however, encouraged miners to form mutual partnerships and joint ventures to share resources, expertise, and risk.
Speaking in Kasempa District during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a shopping mall, the Minister emphasized government’s readiness to support small-scale and artisanal miners with essential resources, including gold detector machines.
He further announced the government’s decision to formalize illegal mining, ensuring that local communities benefit in a more organized and sustainable manner.
