By Mwamba Makonde

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called on the Church to remain steadfast in promoting peace, unity and moral values as the country prepares for the 2026 General Election.

President HICHILEMA says elections should never be a source of division but an opportunity to strengthen national cohesion and democratic values.

BRENDA TAMBATAMBA – Labour and Social Security Minister

He said this in a speech delivered on his behalf by Labour and Social Security Minister, BRENDA TAMBATAMBA, at the 24th anniversary of the Independent Churches of Zambia – ICOZ.

The President said the New Dawn Government views all churches as one body of Christ with a shared responsibility to foster peace, love and tranquility across the nation.

President HICHILEMA noted that Government remains open to constructive dialogue and values the Church’s complementary role in promoting development and social harmony.

He has urged the Church to intensify the message of peace, forgiveness and love ahead of the 2026 General Election, emphasizing that these are core biblical principles.

Bishop DAVID MASUPA – ICOZ President

The Head of State has also commended the Independent Churches of Zambia for their active participation in governance matters, including submissions on Constitution Amendment Bill Number 7, which he assented into law on December 18, 2025.

Meanwhile, ICOZ President, Bishop DAVID MASUPA urged believers to be bold and actively contribute to national development.

Bishop MASUPA encouraged Christians to recognise their role beyond church activities and to support the President, noting that leadership and servanthood often come with challenges.

The President was later presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of his resilience and leadership.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC news by Principal Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security MWAKA NDAWA.
