A two-year-old girl of Moopo Village in Chief Hamusoonde’s area, Monze District, Southern Province, has died from injuries allegedly inflicted by her father during a marital dispute.
The infant, who was assaulted together with her mother, died on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka, where she had been evacuated for specialized treatment.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the incident, identifying the suspect as 25-year-old Mulemba Chibanje, who is currently on the run.
Mr. Namalongo explained that on December 18, 2025, around 20 hours, Chibanje struck the child while she was in her mother’s arms during a domestic altercation. The child sustained severe bleeding from the mouth and nose, was rushed to Nalutanda Health Post, and later transferred to UTH.
Police say investigations have been launched and efforts are underway to bring the suspect to justice.
