FAZ Reaffirms Support for Former Copper Queens Midfielder Mary Mwakapila

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), through its Women’s Football Representative and the Women in Soccer Organisation, has reaffirmed its continued support for former Copper Queens midfielder Mary Mwakapila, who is battling illness.

Colonel Priscilla Katoba, FAZ Women’s Football Representative and President of the Women in Soccer Organisation, said the football fraternity has not abandoned Mwakapila and will continue to stand with her and her family during this difficult period.

Speaking during a Christmas visit to Mwakapila’s home, Col. Katoba expressed hope for her recovery, stressing FAZ’s commitment to ensuring she receives the necessary care and support. She added that the visit was meant to show solidarity and festive cheer, while encouraging well-wishers to assist, including sponsoring treatment.

Christine Njovu, Mwakapila’s mother, thanked FAZ and the Women in Soccer Organisation for their continued support but noted that caring for her daughter has become challenging, especially as her own health is also declining.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Prisca Chibale, who trained alongside Mwakapila in the military, said the former Copper Queens player has endured the illness for some time and appealed for prayers and public assistance to help the family cope.
