The Attorney General’s Office has engaged the Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ- and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to begin drafting consequential legislation to give effect to the amended constitutional provisions.

The exercise relates to the Electoral Process Act and other relevant subsidiary legislation.

Attorney General MULILO KABESHA disclosed this in a statement issued to ZNBC News in LUSAKA today.

He said Constitutional Amendment Act No. 13 of 2025 has now taken legal effect and forms part of the Constitution of Zambia, Chapter One of the Laws of Zambia.

Mr. KABESHA said the legal standing of Constitutional Amendment Act No. 13 of 2025 is anchored in Article 79, sub-article five, of the Constitution of Zambia, which governs the constitutional amendment process.

He also cited Section 16 of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act as authority confirming the Act’s legal validity.

Mr. KABESHA said that once assented to by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA, the Bill became an Act of Parliament, thereby bringing into force Constitutional Amendment Act No. 13 of 2025.
