Six major power generation projects have been completed this year, with a combined installed capacity of three hundred and forty-seven megawatts.
Ministry of Energy Principal Public Relations Officer BOB SIANJALIKA says the completed projects include the one-hundred megawatt Chisamba Solar Plant Phase One and the twenty-five megawatt Mailo Solar Plant in Serenje.
Mr. SIANJALIKA says other completed developments include a ninety-four megawatt mid-scale power plant by Copperbelt Energy Corporation –CEC- on the Copperbelt, as well as an eighty-five megawatt plant by United Capital Fertilizer in Lusaka.
He adds that the Rural Electrification Authority –REA- has developed several commercial and industrial off-grid power projects across the country.
Speaking in an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. SIANJALIKA said twenty-nine power generation projects are currently at various stages of implementation.
He said the projects represent a combined capacity of two thousand six hundred and ten megawatts.
Mr. SIANJALIKA said investment in transmission infrastructure is already underway, including the construction of the three-hundred-and-thirty kilovolt Muzuma–Kafue West transmission line and the three-hundred-and-thirty kilovolt Lusaka West–Kabwe step-down project.
He said other developments include transformer upgrades at Kafue and Kitwe substations, as well as the construction of new substations and switching stations in Lusaka and other growth centres.
