ZESCO Warns Against Illegal Electricity Connections

By Patricia Banda
ZESCO Limited has cautioned members of the public against illegal electricity connections, warning that the practice poses a serious risk of electrocution.
Corporate Communications Manager Matongo Maumbi said illegal and poorly done connections are among the leading causes of electrocution incidents recorded in recent weeks.
Mr. Maumbi explained that investigations by the power utility revealed substandard wiring carried out by individuals without the required technical expertise.
He urged the public to engage qualified and certified electricians when handling electrical installations to avoid accidents.
Mr. Maumbi further advised citizens to remain cautious, especially now that the country is experiencing extended hours of power supply.
He also stressed that in the event of an electrocution incident, members of the public should not touch the victim immediately, as the person may still be charged with live electricity, which could result in additional casualties.
