NAIS -More than 60,000 cattle have been vaccinated this year under the Enhanced Smallholder Livestock Investment Programme (ESLIP).
ESLIP Disease Control Unit Coordinator, Dr. Nawa Mabuku, said the vaccination exercise was conducted in five provinces, representing 76% of the targeted 79,600 calves for 2025.
Dr. Mabuku explained that ESLIP intends to vaccinate 100,000 cattle against East Coast Fever (ECF) in 2026, with plans to expand the programme to Northern and Muchinga Provinces, where the disease has been reported.
He further noted that ESLIP supports the local production of ECF vaccines at the Central Veterinary Research Institute in Chilanga District.
Dr. Mabuku added that a specific vaccine for Northern and Muchinga Provinces is already in place and currently undergoing field trials.
