Govt Vows End to Corrupt Procurement Practices

By Moombe Hamoobola
Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana says the era of corrupt procurement practices is over under the UPND Administration.
Mr. Kawana stressed that government will no longer tolerate the procurement of substandard or non-existent goods and services.
He was speaking in Kazungula District during a donation ceremony by the Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) to Katombora Reformatory School.
Mr. Kawana noted that President Hakainde Hichilema has, from the outset, emphasized the need for timely, quality, and cost-reflective procurement. He disclosed that government is formulating a procurement policy, which will include the appointment of a Procurement General to strengthen oversight and accountability.
Meanwhile, Katombora Reformatory School Acting Superintendent Nyambe Nyambe said the institution faces funding challenges, particularly in providing starter packs to child offenders upon reintegration into society. He highlighted success stories of former inmates who have progressed to universities and graduated in fields such as law.
And ZIPS President Daniel Kabamba emphasized that every child deserves guidance, dignity, and an opportunity to rebuild their future, regardless of background or circumstances.
