Government has directed Trussed Timber Investment Limited to pay over K163,000 in redundancy benefits to its 24 employees.
The directive follows the company’s abrupt notice of its intention to relocate operations to Eastern Province within three days.
Ministry of Labour and Social Security Principal Public Relations Officer Mwaka Ndawa said affected employees sought government intervention to secure their exit packages, after which the company was guided on the redundancy process in line with the Employment Code Act.
Ms. Ndawa explained that the company was instructed to immediately settle all lawful dues owed to the affected workers, ensuring that no employee was disadvantaged by the short relocation notice.
She further urged employers to engage the Office of the Labour Commissioner early when planning operational changes, to guarantee that all legal procedures are followed.
