Nyimba Council Moves to Sue CDF Loan Defaulters

The Nyimba Town Council has resolved to institute legal action against Constituency Development Fund (CDF) loan defaulters.

The local authority disbursed over K9.5 million in CDF loans but is concerned with delays by beneficiaries in settling their balances.

Assistant Public Relations Officer Mirriam Chitimbiti said the decision follows the expiry of a 21-day ultimatum given to 100 loan beneficiaries to clear outstanding amounts.

She explained that legal action will target all defaulters from 2022 to 2025, including those who had entered into payment plans but failed to honour agreed schedules.

Ms. Chitimbiti noted that the situation has adversely affected the CDF Loan Revolving Fund, limiting opportunities for other deserving community members.

She emphasized that the move is intended to safeguard public resources and ensure accountability, adding that the council remains committed to prudent financial management so the fund continues to benefit more residents of the district.
