Road toll fees for selected categories of vehicles will be adjusted upwards from January 1, 2026, following an announcement by Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane during the presentation of the 2026 National Budget.
National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) Public Relations Manager Alphonsius Hamachila explained that the revised toll charges will apply to medium heavy vehicles, heavy vehicles, and abnormal load vehicles only.
He clarified that toll fees for small vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes—including cars, vans, and minibuses with up to 16 seats—will remain unchanged at K20 per passage.
- Light vehicles (3.5–6.5 tonnes), including minibuses with 17–30 seats → K40
- Buses with 30 seats and above → K50
- Medium heavy vehicles (over 6.5 tonnes, 2–4 axles) → K200
- Heavy vehicles (4 axles and above) → K300
- Abnormal load vehicles → K1,000
At the Michael Chilufya Sata Toll Gate (Ndola–Kitwe), the applicable fees will be higher:
- Medium heavy vehicles → K650
- Heavy vehicles → K1,200
- Abnormal load vehicles → K2,400
Mr. Hamachila said the adjustments are intended to support the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the national road network, in line with rising infrastructure costs and the existing backlog in road maintenance. He emphasized that the NRFA remains committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring all tolling funds are directed towards improving road infrastructure for the benefit of all road users.
