Zambia has flagged off the export of 200,000 metric tonnes of maize to Malawi.
The first maize consignment was officially flagged off at the Food Reserve Agency –FRA- Chipata Depot by Agriculture Minister REUBEN MTOLO and his Malawian counterpart ROZA MBILIZI.
Speaking during the event, Mr. MTOLO said Zambia is ready to support neighbouring countries when they are affected by disasters.
Mr. MTOLO also said the government has commenced community sales of maize across the country.
Meanwhile, Ms. MBILIZI commended the Zambian Government for demonstrating solidarity and brotherhood towards Malawi.
She said the maize consignment will significantly help address the food shortage affecting more than four million people in her country.
In a related development, FRA Executive Director JUSTIN CHUUNKA said the maize has undergone all required export procedures.
