Maina Soko Medical Centre has conducted more than 1,700 surgeries between January and November 2025, including an average of two brain surgeries each week.

Maina Soko Medical Centre Commandant Brigadier General LEVY MUCHEMWA says procedures that were previously carried out outside Zambia are now being performed at the centre.

Dr. MUCHEMWA said this when Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General GEOFFREY ZYEELE distributed hampers to new mothers at the medical centre in Lusaka.
He said about 93,000 patients were admitted at the facility between 2022 and November 2025.
Dr. MUCHEMWA added that the centre receives an average of 8,000 patients per month, with five per cent requiring admission.
He said 99 per cent of the hospital’s equipment is operational but expressed concern over a shortage of medical personnel.
Meanwhile, General ZYEELE said challenges facing Maina Soko Medical Centre will be addressed.
He praised the centre’s innovations, noting its capacity to conduct brain surgeries and other complex medical procedures.
General ZYEELE further said Maina Soko Medical Centre is open to the public and encouraged citizens to seek medical services there.
