By Mary Kachepa

Government has appealed to local authorities to avoid taking Constituency Development Fund –CDF- loan defaulters to court before all possible recovery options have been explored.

Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary for Technical Services NICHOLAS PHIRI says there are several mechanisms within government systems that can be used to recover the loans.

In an interview with ZNBC News, Mr. PHIRI called on CDF loan beneficiaries to repay the funds to allow other citizens to access the facility.

He said about two billion kwacha has been disbursed under the loan component of the CDF since 2022.

Mr. PHIRI noted that only about ten percent of the amount disbursed has been recovered so far.

He added that discussions are still underway on whether additional resources will be allocated to the loan component this year.
