Vice-President MUTALE NALUMANGO has revealed that more than 700 bridges and crossing points across the country are damaged and require urgent attention.
Mrs. NALUMANGO says the government is giving equal focus to all regions to ensure damaged infrastructure is rehabilitated.
She adds that resources are being mobilised to address the challenges.
Mrs. NALUMANGO made the remarks while inspecting rehabilitation works at Mphamba Bridge in Lundazi District, which was washed away during recent floods.
Eastern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary LEWIS MWAPE called on the Eastern Water and Sanitation Company to elevate its water treatment plant along the Lundazi River, after it was submerged during the floods.
Meanwhile, Lundazi District Commissioner MARJORY BANDA said relief food distribution has begun for families affected by the floods.
Mrs. BANDA added that the government has positioned more than 1,000 bags of mealie meal, each weighing 25 kilograms, in the district to assist affected households.
