The Ministry of Education has directed all private schools following the Zambian curriculum to strictly comply with the official school calendar.

Ministry Permanent Secretary for Technical Services KELVIN MAMBWE says private schools that fail to adhere to the national calendar risk having their operating licences revoked.
Dr. MAMBWE has expressed concern over early school openings, saying such actions undermine the Ministry’s efforts to maintain uniformity across the academic calendar.
He says the Education Act empowers the Minister of Education to determine the academic calendar, the length of the academic year and the structure of school terms for all schools.
Dr. MAMBWE adds that only international schools, or institutions with written approval from the Ministry to operate a different curriculum, are exempt from following the national school calendar.
