Zambia, DRC Advance Mealie Meal Trade Talks

REUBEN MTOLO – Agriculture Minister

(NAIS) Government says discussions with the Democratic Republic of Congo –DRC- on the export of mealie meal and other maize products have reached an advanced stage.

Agriculture Minister REUBEN MTOLO says the DRC remains a strategic and dependable market for Zambia’s agricultural produce.

Mr. MTOLO says engagements have intensified to secure a government-to-government mealie meal trade agreement following the bumper harvest recorded during the 2024/2025 farming season.

He was speaking when a delegation from the Congolese Ministry of Agriculture paid a courtesy call on him at his office in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Congolese Ministry of Agriculture Adviser CREPIN TSHIBOLA NDUNGA said her country has opted to trade with Zambia after noting the strong agricultural performance recorded during the last farming season.

Ms. NDUNGA said consultations on the proposed deal are already underway, adding that the two countries are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding –MoU- in the near future to formalise the arrangement.
