Mufulira–Mokambo Road Upgrade Takes Shape

By Tamara Muswala

JIA YOU International, the contractor working on the 27-kilometre Mufulira–Mokambo Road, says the upgrade works are expected to be completed by November this year.

A check by the ZNBC News Crew found that the contractor is currently on site, with one kilometre of the road so far upgraded to bituminous standard.

JIA YOU International Chief Engineer YANG HANZHANG says rainfall has contributed to the slow pace of the works, adding that progress is expected to increase once the rains subside.

Mokambo Ward Councillor MUSAKALU MABWE says the upgrade of the road has long been a concern for international truck drivers and other road users.

Meanwhile, Mufulira Mayor TANAELI KAMANGA says the local authority, working with the Road Development Agency, has put in place short-term measures to make the road passable.
