HAMASAKA Slams Unsubstantiated Rigging Allegations

State House has called on opposition figures, who previously claimed rigging and the existence of ghost polling stations, to present evidence following the conclusion of the Chawama by-election.

CLAYSON HAMASAKA – State House Chief Communication Specialist

State House Chief Communication Specialist, CLAYSON HAMASAKA, states that some prominent individuals made broad and unsubstantiated allegations against State institutions, actions he believes were aimed, whether intentionally or not, at weakening and undermining these institutions.

In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Mr. HAMASAKA remarked that such claims of rigging damage public trust and hinder the smooth functioning of democracy.

He said President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA had congratulated the elected candidate and praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia, law enforcement, and the electorate for conducting a peaceful and credible election.

Mr. HAMASAKA noted that this gesture reflected the President’s commitment to democracy and his respect for institutional processes.

He pointed out that the Chawama by-election serves as a clear example of the government honouring democratic outcomes, even when the ruling party is not the winner.

Mr. HAMASAKA contrasted the peaceful nature of this election with the violence and intimidation that characterised elections during the previous administration, when electoral contestation often descended into confrontation.

He emphasised that the calm nature of this poll demonstrates the significant progress the country has made and underscores the importance of safeguarding these gains.

Mr. HAMASAKA has since urged the opposition to show the same respect for institutions that they expect when they themselves are victorious.

He asserted that democracy is strengthened not only through winning but also through the acceptance of outcomes and unwavering respect for the processes that uphold the nation.
