Kafue Gorge Signs Solar Expansion Deal

Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre and China’s Vision High Tech have signed an agreement for the development of Phase Two of the NAMALUNDU Solar Project.

The second phase will add 10 megawatts to the existing 10 megawatts generated under Phase One, bringing total output to 20 megawatts.

The project is scheduled for commissioning by mid-2026.

Speaking during the signing ceremony in Lusaka today, Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre Head of Projects and Consultancy MWABA MATIMBA said the project forms part of the institution’s efforts to diversify the country’s energy mix and support sustainability.

Vision High Tech General Manager LIN YIFENG said the company remains committed to incorporating Chinese technology and efficiency into the project.

He also expressed appreciation for the partnership.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media after the ceremony, Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre Board Chairperson PATRICIA MUSIYA said the project is intended to broaden power supply sources while encouraging local partnerships in energy provision.

In addition, Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre Director DAVIES CHINKUSU disclosed that ground clearing for Phase Two of the NAMALUNDU Solar Project has already begun, with construction set to commence once regulatory requirements are completed.
