Police Deputy Public Relations Officer CHIPO KAITISHA says Mr. SAMPA is currently in detention and is awaiting a court appearance.

Ms. KAITISHA says the Matero lawmaker, aged 55, of Lusaka’s Leopards Hill, Nyumba Yanga area, has been charged under Section 19(1) (d) of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.

She explains that the arrest followed a complaint lodged on January 19, 2026, at Lusaka Central Police Station by Mr RAPHAEL PHIRI, a Corporate Affairs Officer at the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ, acting on behalf of the Commission.

In a statement to ZNBC News, Ms. KAITISHA said it is alleged that on January 15, 2026, Mr. SAMPA transmitted false information claiming that a fake polling station had been opened along Ring Road in Lusaka.

She said the Zambia Police Service will continue to enforce the law impartially and investigate all reported cases thoroughly.
