A four-year-old boy has been admitted to Lumezi Mission Hospital in Eastern Province after being attacked by a hyena.

The incident occurred yesterday around 18:30 hours in Chief MWASE’s area of Lundazi District, as the boy was returning from watching the traditional VIMBUZA dance.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer ROBERTSON MWEEMBA says the child was in the company of friends when they were attacked by the hyena at Gwilani Village.

Mr. MWEEMBA explains that the animal emerged from the bush, grabbed the boy and began moving towards Kasungu National Park, which is about one kilometre from the village.

He says the hyena later dropped the child about 300 metres from the village after residents gave chase.

Mr. MWEEMBA adds that the boy sustained multiple facial injuries and an open wound on the left side of the head, exposing the brain.
