Deputy Army Commander Major General LUSWEPO SINYINZA says Zambia remains committed to global peace and security.
General SINYINZA was speaking in New York when he delivered Zambia’s national statement at the official opening of the 2026 United Nations Contingent-Owned Equipment –COE- Working Group at UN Headquarters.
He appealed to the Working Group, United Nations funders and cooperating partners to carefully review the evolving dynamics of the peacekeeping environment.
General SINYINZA said the 2026 COE deliberations should result in practical outcomes that support the Action for Peacekeeping Plus -A4P+- agenda, with the aim of improving the safety and effectiveness of peacekeepers worldwide.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by NAMATAMA NJEKWA, First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian Mission in New York.
Ms. NJEKWA said the 2026 COE process is significant as it will shape the financial and operational frameworks that guide effective peacekeeping operations.
She explained that discussions on equipment standards and reimbursement rates are crucial in enabling troop-contributing countries such as Zambia to deploy safely and carry out complex mandates.
Ms. NJEKWA added that Zambia’s participation is in line with its foreign policy, which places multilateral cooperation and peacekeeping missions at the centre of global peace and stability efforts.
General SINYINZA was accompanied by senior officials from the Zambia Army and the Ministry of Defence.
