Matero Member of Parliament MILES SAMPA has pleaded NOT GUILTY to one count of using a computer or computer system for an offence, contrary to the Cyber Crimes Act.
It is alleged that Mr. SAMPA used a computer to make a Facebook post claiming that the Electoral Commission of Zambia –ECZ- had set up an illegal polling station.
The alleged offence occurred on Thursday, January 15, 2026, during the Chawama parliamentary by-election.
Appearing before Lusaka Magistrate WEBSTER MILUMBE today, Mr. SAMPA said he understood the charge but denied committing the offence.
Magistrate MILUMBE granted Mr. SAMPA bail in the sum of one million kwacha in his own recognisance, with two working sureties in the same amount.
The decision followed an application for bail by defence lawyers CHARLES CHANGANO, JONATHAN KAPAKO and CELESTINE MUKANDILA.
The Magistrate also cautioned Mr. SAMPA, who was arrested on January 20, 2026, against interfering with witnesses while on bail.
The matter has been adjourned to February 19, 2026, for commencement of trial.
