The European Union –EU- has announced plans to invest about 130 million United States dollars in the rehabilitation of the Mwinilunga–Jimbe Road as part of efforts to advance the Lobito Corridor project.

Head of European Union Development Cooperation to Zambia, CLAUDIO BACIGALUPI, says the road works have been prioritised as arrangements for the construction of the railway line under the Lobito Corridor are being finalised.
Mr. BACIGALUPI says upgrading the road infrastructure will ease the movement of goods and services between Zambia and Angola, while also promoting regional trade and economic integration.
He was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on North Western Province Permanent Secretary, Colonel GRANDSON KATAMBI.

Mr. BACIGALUPI said improved access to Zambia’s mineral-rich North Western and Copperbelt provinces is expected to drive economic growth and create employment opportunities.
Meanwhile, Colonel KATAMBI called on the European Union to speed up the implementation of the Lobito Corridor project.
He said the corridor is key to unlocking the economic potential of North Western Province and will greatly improve connectivity, trade and development in the country.
