By Chansa Kunda

Test runs of newly installed equipment at the Zambia–China Mulungushi Textiles have officially begun, marking a key step towards full operations.

The equipment was procured and installed at a cost of one hundred and forty million United States dollars.

Speaking during an inspection of the test runs in Kabwe today, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry CHIPOKA MULENGA said the machinery is powered by the latest artificial intelligence technology.

Mr. MULENGA said the test phase is taking place ahead of the official commissioning of the factory, which is expected to be conducted by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA later this year.

He added that the facility will also be supported by a two hundred megawatt solar power plant, with one hundred and ninety megawatts set to be supplied to the national grid.

Meanwhile, Zambia–China Mulungushi Textiles General Manager Brigadier General EMMANUEL SIMENTI said the equipment is expected to begin its first printing operations within the next few weeks.

General SIMENTI said more than four hundred direct jobs have already been created ahead of full operations.
