Levy Ngoma: Mining Growth Driving Jobs and Currency Gains

By Ruth Chayinda
Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, has expressed confidence that government will achieve its target of producing three million metric tonnes of copper by 2031, citing continued investments in the mining sector.
Speaking in Serenje during a meeting with stakeholders, Mr. Ngoma noted that the rise in production is being driven by stronger performance at major mines.
He said this progress has created jobs and contributed to the appreciation of the kwacha against major currencies.
Mr. Ngoma further encouraged citizens involved in mining to obtain artisanal mining licences, enabling them to operate within a secure and regulated framework.
He also pointed out that President Hakainde Hichilema has fulfilled his campaign pledge to re-open Zambia–China Mulungushi Textiles, which had remained closed for several years.
According to Mr. Ngoma, the revival of the textile company will boost industrial growth and generate employment opportunities.
