Energy Minister Makozo Chikote says Zambia’s electricity deficit is being mitigated through the importation of 511 megawatts.
Delivering a ministerial statement in Parliament today on the current power supply situation, Mr. Chikote said government is working to stabilize electricity supply for households, businesses, industries, and essential public services.
He explained that Zambia’s national installed electricity generation capacity stands at 3,880 megawatts, of which 3,116 megawatts is generated by ZESCO and 712 megawatts by private power producers.
However, due to prevailing hydrological and operational constraints, the country’s available domestic generation has dropped to 1,635 megawatts.
