HEA to Propose Mandatory Recognition System for Professors

The Higher Education Authority (HEA) says it plans to propose amendments to the Higher Education Act to introduce a mandatory recognition system for professors.

HEA Director General Professor Kazhila Chinsembu stated that the goal is to establish a national register of accredited professors in Zambia.

Speaking at a media training workshop in Lusaka, Professor Chinsembu emphasized the importance of investigative journalism in exposing fake professorships and strengthening higher education standards. He warned that unqualified individuals contribute to graduate incompetence, increased unemployment, and undermine regulatory oversight, thereby threatening the legitimacy of degree awards and the quality of graduate skills.

Meanwhile, veteran journalist Grevazio Zulu highlighted the need for journalists to explore higher education issues, saying the sector plays a vital role in shaping national development. He urged the media to write impactful stories and hold the HEA accountable, particularly on matters such as fake professors.
