The Chamber of Mines of Namibia has commended President Hakainde Hichilema for his leadership, which it says has helped turn around the fortunes of Zambia’s mining sector.
Chief Executive Officer Veston Malango, a Zambian based in Namibia, said President Hichilema has demonstrated how accountable leadership can deliver on its vision. He was reacting to the President’s keynote speech at the Mining Indaba in South Africa.
Mr. Malango further praised the President’s goal of achieving 3 million metric tonnes of copper production by 2030, describing the target as attainable with the right environment to attract private sector investment.
Meanwhile, Konkola Copper Mines Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Dr. John Kunda said the President has set a positive tone for the sector, noting that the mine is pleased its contribution to Zambia’s economic growth agenda has been recognized.
Mopani Copper Mines Public Relations Manager Nebart Mulenga disclosed that the company’s workforce has grown to 14,100 as of December 2025, up from 10,500 in April 2024. He added that Mopani has invested in technology to reduce environmental pollution, in line with government’s vision to promote sustainable mining practices.
