HH to Attend AU Summit in Addis Ababa

President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, scheduled for February 14–15, 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe said discussions at the Summit will focus on driving transformative action, strengthening governance, and accelerating progress towards Africa’s water and sanitation goals.

Mr. Haimbe revealed that President Hichilema will host a high-level side event to officially launch the African Union Theme of the Year, alongside the Africa Water Vision 2063 and its Policy Framework, in partnership with the African Union Commission.

In his capacity as AU Champion on Ending Child Marriage, President Hichilema will also host a high-level breakfast meeting aimed at accelerating efforts to end child marriage on the continent.

The meeting will feature the launch of the 2025 Report of the AU Champion on Ending Child Marriage in Africa.

Additionally, President Hichilema, together with Member States and partners including the International Vaccine Institute, Africa CDC, and the African Medicines Agency, will co-host a high-level breakfast dialogue to launch ACHIEVE Africa 2.0.

Mr. Haimbe added that the Head of State is also expected to attend the 35th Summit of the Forum of Heads of State and Government of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), among other engagements.
