Zambia is expected to push for sustainable water and sanitation solutions as President Hakainde Hichilema joins other African leaders at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The summit, held under the theme “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve Agenda 2063,” will focus on tackling one of Africa’s most critical development challenges.
President Hichilema is expected to join fellow Heads of State and Government in assessing progress on continental priorities such as peace and security, regional integration, and sustainable development, while also contributing to discussions on African Union institutional reforms.
The Assembly will further deliberate on how Africa can strengthen its collective voice on global platforms, including coordinated engagement with the G20.
President Hichilema has previously emphasized that peace and stability are essential for economic transformation.
On the sidelines of the summit, the Zambian Head of State will participate in high‑level engagements on digital health systems, gender equality, child survival, and strengthening Africa’s health security frameworks.
The outcomes of the summit are expected to influence policy direction towards improving access to clean water, sanitation, and inclusive development across the continent.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka.
