A 62‑year‑old man of Chasefu District in Eastern Province has died after reportedly consuming alcohol excessively for seven hours on an empty stomach.
The deceased, identified as Justin Nyirenda of Malindila Village in Chief Magodi’s area, is said to have taken Samurai Spirits at Kulikuli Village Market from 08:00 hours to 15:00 hours yesterday.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed that police received a report from the deceased’s cousin, Ganizani Nyirenda, who said Justin collapsed on his way home and fell asleep.
Mr. Mweemba stated that the deceased was later found dead around 06:30 hours today. He added that the body was intact and police do not suspect foul play.
Officers from Emusa Police Post left the body in the custody of the family following their request to bury without a postmortem.
