President Hakainde Hichilema has departed for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly.
At the summit, Zambia is expected to push for sustainable water and sanitation solutions, in line with this year’s theme: “Ensuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve Agenda 2063.”
President Hichilema said the theme speaks directly to the wellbeing of millions of Africans, including Zambians. This was contained in a post on his official Facebook page, monitored by ZNBC News in Lusaka.
While in Ethiopia, the President will join fellow Heads of State and Government to review progress on key continental priorities, including peace and security, regional integration, and sustainable development.
He is also expected to contribute to discussions on African Union institutional reforms and strengthening Africa’s collective voice on global platforms, including engagement with the G20.
On the sidelines of the summit, President Hichilema will participate in high‑level meetings on digital health systems, gender equality, child survival, and Africa’s health security.
The summit outcomes are expected to influence policy direction on access to clean water, sanitation, and inclusive development across the continent.
