ZAFFICO Invests $7 Million in Kalulushi Sawmill Plant

The Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO) has invested over seven million United States dollars in establishing a state‑of‑the‑art sawmill processing plant in Kalulushi.

The move responds to government’s call to foster value addition and industrialization.

ZAFFICO Director of Operations Justin Tongo said the plant aligns with the company’s 2024–2028 strategic plan, which focuses on tree planting, expansion, and value addition. He made the remarks during a stakeholder tour of the new facility, which included sawmillers and academicians.

Mr. Tongo explained that the new plant will produce 50,000 cubic meters of finished timber annually, a development expected to boost revenue.

ZAFFICO Head of Commercial Ireen Chipili added that the company will continue supplying round wood to sawmillers while integrating them into the value chain as off‑takers to support the new processing plant.
