ACC Clarifies Lusambo Properties Remain Forfeited to the State

By Doreen Chembe

The Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) has clarified that properties belonging to former Kabushi Member of Parliament Bowman Lusambo in Chamba Valley remain forfeited to the State.

ACC Acting Head of Corporate Communications Chilufya Chisanga explained that Mr. Lusambo was tried before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court on two counts of possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Mr. Chisanga said that while criminal proceedings were underway, the Commission also initiated non‑conviction‑based forfeiture proceedings in the High Court under Section 31 of the law. However, following Mr. Lusambo’s conviction and the court‑ordered forfeiture, the High Court matter was discontinued as it had been overtaken by events and rendered legally unnecessary.

He emphasized that the clarification was meant to correct misinformation and reaffirm the legal position regarding the seized assets.
