Kafue Member of Parliament Mirriam Chonya says advanced talks are underway to upgrade the Kafue Road into a dual carriageway up to the Turnpike area.
Ms. Chonya explained that the upgrade is intended to ease traffic congestion in parts of Kafue Constituency. She added that the project also includes upgrading some township roads to bituminous standard.
She made the remarks while inspecting the 21-kilometre Shantumbu Road, which is currently being rehabilitated and upgraded to bituminous standard.
Ms. Chonya said the road works, funded by government, began in the first week of January and are expected to be completed by June this year. She noted that the works are already delivering on government’s promises to the people of Zambia.
She attributed the slow pace of progress to ongoing rainfall activities across the country.
Meanwhile, Chisankane Ward Development Committee Chairperson Kennedy Simbotwe commended government for meeting the aspirations of the people in Shantumbu area.
