Transport and Logistics Minister Frank Tayali has reiterated government’s commitment to protecting the welfare of Zambian citizens, citing the online taxi sector as a prime example.
Mr. Tayali assured that government will take necessary measures to ensure investors prioritize the interests of local citizens.
He further encouraged online taxi drivers to maintain open dialogue with their leaders and avoid making assumptions.
He made the remarks when the Online Taxi Drivers Association of Zambia paid a courtesy call on him.
Meanwhile, Association President Lucas Chanda called for sustained support and expeditious legislative action to ensure safety and fairness for digital transport workers.
Mr. Chanda highlighted challenges faced by Zambian drivers, including economic exploitation, lack of accountability, and severe driver fatigue.
He commended Mr. Tayali for his role in ending blind trips and introducing a physical interaction directive, which he said has helped restore driver dignity.
