Church Leaders Call for Peaceful Engagement Ahead of 2026 Polls

By Ruth Chayinda
The United Church of Zambia (UCZ) in Northern Province has urged citizens to reject violence and tribal politics as the country heads toward the general election.
UCZ St. Paul’s Congregation Reverend Simon Kocha said it is the responsibility of all citizens to ensure peace and unity prevail. He challenged Christians to reflect their identity in Christ by avoiding violence or tribalism linked to political party affiliations.
Reverend Kocha emphasized that Christians should exhibit traits of unity, peace, and love, as this is the character expected of them.
He made the remarks during a church service attended by Special Assistant to the President for Politics Levy Ngoma, government officials, and newly elected Kasama Mayor Bywell Simposya.
Meanwhile, Mr. Ngoma thanked churches across the district for encouraging civic participation and promoting peaceful engagement during campaigns. He called on them to continue playing this role as the country heads to the 2026 polls.
Mr. Ngoma further noted that the Church remains a strategic partner in development and assured congregants that government is committed to working with the Church because they serve the same people.
