Speaker of the National Assembly, Nelly Mutti, has called for unity and resilience in driving Zambia’s development agenda.
Speaking at a working luncheon hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations in New York, Ms. Mutti emphasized that collective national responsibility is crucial in advancing the country’s progress.
Her remarks came during a high-profile event on the sidelines of the 2026 Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Hearing, where she led the Zambian delegation. The hearing focused on promoting durable peace, sustainable development, and democratic governance through effective multilateralism.
Ms. Mutti underscored the growing importance of parliamentary participation in United Nations processes, including treaty ratification and global policy dialogue. She noted that informed legislative oversight at the national level relies heavily on parliament’s engagement with international platforms.
She also highlighted Zambia’s recent progress in stabilizing the economy, strengthening agricultural production despite drought challenges, and expanding investments in alternative energy, particularly solar power.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Dr. Chola Milambo, reaffirmed the Mission’s commitment to advancing Zambia’s development priorities and strengthening international partnerships.
