Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Permanent Secretary, Dr. Max Choombe, has encouraged a Qatari business giant to explore collaboration and investment opportunities in Zambia’s livestock value chain.
This call comes in support of the country’s recently launched one-billion US dollar annual beef export initiative.
Dr. Choombe made the appeal during a meeting with Widam Food Company, a leading meat processing and distribution firm based in Doha, Qatar.
Representatives from Widam Food Company acknowledged Zambia’s strategy to guarantee disease-free and halal-certified beef for export markets. Both parties agreed on a roadmap that includes negotiating a technical agreement and initiating cooperation in processed beef products, subject to resolving supply-chain logistics. Follow-up engagements will be pursued through diplomatic channels.
Dr. Choombe, together with his agriculture counterpart Yvonne Mpundu, is holding a series of high-level meetings on the sidelines of the ongoing international agricultural exhibition in Doha. The Zambian delegation is focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and attracting strategic investment into the country’s agriculture, fisheries, and livestock sectors.
Dr. Choombe described the engagements as a strategic step toward positioning Zambia’s livestock sector as a key driver of export growth, value addition, and rural economic development.
This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Principal Public Relations Officer, Benny Munyama.
