12 PF Councillors in Kasama Defect to UPND

By Ruth Chayinda

Twelve councillors from Kasama District have defected from the Patriotic Front (PF) and joined the United Party for National Development (UPND).

The councillors have also endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for the 2026 General Elections.

Receiving the councillors, UPND Vice Chairperson for Elections Likando Mufalali urged party members in Northern Province to expedite the recruitment of new members. He said the UPND has called on its members to intensify efforts to grow the party’s membership as the country approaches the general elections, adding that the party has ample room to accommodate more members.

Mr. Mufalali made the remarks when he met the 12 councillors from Kasama who officially defected from the PF to join the UPND.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs, Levy Ngoma, described the development as a clear indication that the UPND continues to gain confidence and support across the political divide. He added that President Hichilema’s love for Zambia is evident through his continued efforts to fulfill promises made to the people.
