Witness Absence Delays Kalonga Kanono Proceedings

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has adjourned to March 11, 2026, the case involving traditional healer Chileya Chilufya, popularly known as Kalonga Kanono, and two others.

The 52-year-old traditional leader, together with Natasha Chileshe, 21, a student, and Mwiinji Chileshe, 32, are facing one count of child trafficking for sexual exploitation, contrary to the Anti-Human Trafficking Act.

The accused first appeared in court in July 2025, where they pleaded not guilty.

When the matter came up for continuation of trial today, State Prosecutor Milambo Sinyangwe applied for an adjournment, citing logistical challenges in securing the attendance of a witness from Kasama, Northern Province.

Allegations in the case are that on June 2, 2024, the three trafficked a child within Zambia for the purpose of sexual exploitation.
