An 11-year-old boy has died after being attacked by a crocodile on Lake Kariba in Gwembe District, Southern Province.
The victim, identified as James Manyepa of Chipepo Village in Chief Chipepo’s area, was fishing at Namazuma Fishing Camp when the incident occurred.
Southern Province Police Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the tragedy, which happened on Sunday, February 15, 2026, around 17:00 hours.
Mr. Namalongo explained that James had gone fishing with his grandfather, Golden Michelo, and three siblings when he slipped and fell into the water, where he was immediately attacked by a crocodile.
He said the grandfather attempted to rescue the boy by throwing objects at the reptile, but his efforts proved futile. A search was later conducted, and the boy’s body was retrieved.
