Four thousand members of the Patriotic Front (PF) have defected to the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) in Masaiti District on the Copperbelt.
Among the defectors are Katuba Ward PF Councilor Lambani Mbunda, former Masaiti District Commissioner Mike Musonda, and former Permanent Secretary in the PF government Joyce Bwacha.
The new UPND members endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema for the 2026 general election and praised the country’s improving economic performance.
Copperbelt UPND Chairperson Elisha Matambo welcomed the new members during a party mobilization rally in Masaiti, saying the ruling party is ready to receive more members without discrimination.
Meanwhile, former Mpongwe PF Constituency Chairperson Emmanuel Kasambo urged residents of Masaiti to support the UPND, noting that the party has delivered on its 2021 campaign promises.
