Police in Chikankata, Southern Province are investigating the death of a one-month-old baby who sustained fatal injuries during a fight between its parents at a drinking place.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, around 22:00 hours in Kaleya Settlement, Chief Mwenda’s area.
Southern Province Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo confirmed the matter, explaining that it was only reported after the infant had been buried.
Mr. Namalongo identified the parents as Michelo Ng’andu, 30, and Christina Chilola, 23, who are currently on the run.
Investigations indicate that the couple had a misunderstanding while at a bar, which escalated into a fight. During the altercation, the baby strapped to the mother’s back sustained injuries and later died when the couple returned home.
Police officers visited the burial site, which was identified by the baby’s grandfather. Mr. Namalongo said police are pursuing the couple as investigations continue.
