ZCCM-IH Targets 9,000 Trees in Nationwide Sustainability Drive

ZCCM Investments Holdings (ZCCM-IH) has announced plans to plant 9,000 trees countrywide this year as part of its long-term environmental sustainability programme aimed at mitigating the impact of mining activities.

ZCCM-IH Head of Risk, Mwaka Mwamulima, said the company has already planted 1,000 trees in nine schools in Chief Chibwika’s area of Mwinilunga District, North-Western Province.

Speaking during the tree-planting exercise in Mwinilunga, Ms. Mwamulima explained that schools were deliberately targeted to empower pupils with knowledge on climate change, afforestation, and sustainable environmental practices.

She added that ZCCM-IH remains committed to supporting communities in Mwinilunga and will continue fostering partnerships with traditional leaders, schools, and local authorities to sustain environmental protection initiatives.

Meanwhile, Chief Chibwika of Mwinilunga District commended ZCCM-IH for the initiative, describing the tree-planting exercise as timely and beneficial to the chiefdom. He said the programme will help restore degraded areas and contribute to efforts aimed at addressing the effects of climate change in the district.
