Government is working on plans to ensure that financing for malaria and other essential health services remains sustainable and predictable.
Acting Health Minister Cornelius Mweetwa said the roadmap involves the development of a Sustainability Financing Plan and the piloting of the Big Push accountability and monitoring framework.
Mr. Mweetwa explained that the plan seeks to strengthen domestic resource mobilization and long-term financial stability. Speaking during a ministerial breakfast meeting in Lusaka today, he stated that the two initiatives will ensure the health sector remains systematically aligned and fully integrated with the National Development Plans, ongoing public finance reforms, and the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework.
Meanwhile, Water Development and Sanitation Minister Collins Nzovu said eliminating malaria requires coordinated and sustained efforts from various ministries and stakeholders. He noted that improving access to clean water and proper sanitation facilities is critical in preventing the spread of malaria, adding that the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) agenda feeds directly into the Ministry’s ongoing interventions.
ALMA Executive Secretary Joy Phumaphi commended Zambia for demonstrating strong and committed leadership in the fight against malaria.
